Anggota Peneliti IRFAN WAHYUDI Abstrak Al-Mashduqiah Plus Junior High School is one of the boarding school that develops foreign language skills as an attempt to prepare young people to be able to compete in the global world. In fact, the language learners (students) still often mix the structure of their first language into English to write. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the language interference in the students’ English writing assignment, and what factors behind them. The research used descriptive qualitative. The results showed that the form of interference in Al-Mashduqiah Plus Junior High School is morphological and syntactical structure. Besides, these interferences are caused by several factors; they are structural and non-structural factors. The structural factors include the difference of linguistics systems in native language and the targeted language. The non-structural factors include the learners’ bilingualism, language loyalty, the inadequate vocabulary of learners’ language, and the habits of using mother tongue language. This research is expected to provide information to students, teachers, and researchers so that they can find learning innovations that can improve the quality of foreign language skills.

Anggota Peneliti Abstrak Some Language Institutes at Pesantren Nurul Jadid require the students in the final level to write academic paper as a graduation requirement. This aims to improve students' reasoning skills in the field of writing. However, the problem is that not all institutions are able to assist their students in writing academic papers As happened in KSK (Kelompok Studi Khusus) which based on the results of initial observations at KSK, writing classes did not run optimally. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out community service activities in the form of assistance in writing academic articles for KSK students to help them improve their information literacy and reasoning skills. The steps taken to support the success of this event are site observation, preparation and design, implementation of activities, and evaluation. The results of the service showed that the results of the participants' written work were less than optimal, but from the results of cognitive tests on the concept of academic essay writing, students' knowledge increased by 28.19%.

One form of essay featured in academic writing is the argumentative essay. Writing an argumentative essay leads students to explore their opinions or arguments to convince the reader. Nevertheless, some studies show that college students face some difficulties in writing argumentative essays. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the students’ ability to write argumentative essays in terms of essay structure. A qualitative case was used in this study. The data was taken from the final test of the Advance Writing course written by 36 fourth-semester students of the English Language Education Program. The Elsa Speak application is an English language learning platform that uses artificial intelligence-based technology to help users improve their speaking skills in English. The problem identified was the low level of students' English speaking skills at SMAN 1 Besuk. This can hinder their academic progress and preparation to face future global challenges. Other obstacles faced were students' limited access to technology and a lack of understanding of how to effectively use the Elsa Speak application. The proposed solution is to provide special assistance to students in using the Elsa Speak application. Assistance will be provided by English teachers and lecturers who are skilled in using learning technology. They will guide students in overcoming difficulties, measure their progress, and provide constructive feedback. Apart from that, training is also held for teachers to be able to integrate this application into the learning process effectively. With the right assistance, it is hoped that SMAN 1 Besuk students can improve their English-speaking skills with more confidence and proficiency. Apart from that, it is also hoped that this approach will open students' access to modern learning technology, increase interest in learning, and optimize the potential for learning English at the school. Augmented reality is one of the technologies that has been determined to be acceptable for usage in educational settings such as science, mathematics, and engineering. As a result, this study looked into the usefulness of employing mobile augmented reality (MAR) to improve students' speaking skills. This study employed a quasi-experimental approach with two groups: control and experimental. They are conducting MAR and traditional instructional methods teaching and learning sessions. The novel Si Anak Kuat by Tere Liye describes how an innovation becomes a option to alleviate poverty in rural areas on the island of Sumatra and how Amelia, the main character in this novel, carries out innovation diffusion steps. Through discourse analysis, this research aims at revealing the characteristics of diffusion of innovation implemented in Tere Liye's Si Anak Kuat that cause the innovation, in this case is substituting old coffee plants with new and high quality one, can be accepted by all villagers. The results show that the innovation in the novel comes into its acceptance to all villagers due to its highly economical relative advantages, its highly compatibility, triability, and also its observability. The innovation is also supported by its hardly complexity.

Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode atau pendekatan kepustakaan (library research). Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan studi dokumentasi dan literatur. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis untuk disajikan secara deskriptif. Penelitian ini menunjukan, bahwa nilai-nilai karakter yang terkandung dan dianalisis dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, seperti kejujuran, kesopanan, toleran dan demokratis. Here, Desdemona as the central female character becomes the main focus in this research. This study aims to reveal woman’s roles depicted by Shakespeare in Othello and describe the factors affecting them. This study used the literary criticism with the theory of cultural feminism. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research. From this research, two findings can be stated as the answer of the problems of the study. The first is, the roles of woman in Shakespeare’s play Othello are woman as a wife, woman as caretaker, and woman as peacemaker. From those roles, the researcher finds that the factors that affect woman’s roles in the drama are relationship and personal factors.

Generally, interference often occurs in language learning process. The interference is caused by a tendency to accustom the pronunciation of one language to another. Its scope includes changes in sound form, grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Nurul Jadid Islamic boarding school is one of the boarding schools that develops foreign language skills as an attempt to prepare young people to be able to compete in the global world. In fact, the language learners (santri) still often mix the structure of their first language into foreign languages to communicate. Therefore, this study aims to identify the grammatical interference in the foreign language communication of Nurul Jadid students, and what factors behind them. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results show that the form of interference in Nurul Jadid students‟ communication is in the form of morphological and syntactical structure. Besides, these interferences are caused by several factors; they are learners‟ bilingualism, language loyalty, synonymy necessity and the learner‟s habit in using first language. This research is expected to provide information to language teachers, so that they can find learning innovations that can improve the quality of foreign language skills of Nurul Jadid's students.

Listening skills are part of communication skills. Active and deep listening are able to improve the way of communicating both in term of content and fluency. In addition, listening skill is also able to enrich vocabulary, accent and pronunciation in speaking skill. The language institutions in Nurul Jadid boarding school has hundreds of learners who some of them still use their first language accent in communicating foreign languages. As a result, language interference occurs to undermine the language system in meaning, pronunciation, and grammar. This certainly is not able to maximize the quality of students’ communication in foreign languages. Through this community engagement program, English education department introducing and providing training or workshop in deep listening technique to improve the students’ ability in communicating English. The implementation of this program can be concludeed as successful. This was proven by the participants’ enthu-siasm in practicing English communication after the training was held.

Early childhood students must learn English early to prepare them for the era of globalization. There are four problem formulations studied, namely about 1) the qualifications of English teachers, 2) students' attitudes towards English, 3) the techniques used, and 4) the media. This study used a qualitative descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of a teacher and 26 fifth grade students (V) of MI Azzainiyah II Paiton Probolinggo. There are three data collection instruments, namely observation, interviews and questionnaires. Observations are made when teaching and learning activities are in progress. After that, interviews with teachers were conducted to obtain information related to problem formulations. The questionnaire was given to students to find out students' attitudes towards English. The results showed that 1) the qualifications of the English teachers had good qualifications, 2) the students' attitudes towards English were very positive, 3) the techniques used were varied, including Listen-Do, Listen-Repeat, and Question and Answer, and 4) media that used in the form of pictures from various sources as well as blackboards.

This research used pre-experimental design by using one shot case study pre-test and post-test. Before the treatment, the researcher gave the pre-test in one class. Moreover, the researcher taught English by using ice breaking in the experimental class. The last, the researcher conducted the post-test to know whether an ice breaking was effective for teaching English in experimental class. Based on the data analysis, the data t-test (2.77) was higher than t-table value (2.042). The result analyzing showed that there was significant difference on the students’ motivation taught by using ice breaker. The students’ mean score of the pre-test of the experiment class was 60. Then, in the post-test, the mean score of experiment class was 66.1. Therefore, hypothesis H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It concluded that ice breaking was effective in teaching English learning toward the students’ motivation for the first grade of SMP Nurul Jadid. Thus, this research make students be enjoy, be active, energize, feeling happiness, interactive in the classroom, stay in the class during learning process, and focus on the material.

The quality of human resources is certainly very relevant to students' interest in reading. Reading habits are not only related to the teaching and learning process, but also can shape the personality of an individual by living the reading results. The research aims to study the process of reading habits and reading preferences favored by students. The research method used was a descriptive survey involving 45 students of non-English students in Az-Zainiyah Nurul Jadid. In obtaining data to find out the problems faced by students in understanding English reading texts, a questionnaire was used relating to reading habits and reading preferences. The findings from this study are expected to be used as an evaluation material that reading skills also need to be introduced further to students so that they can use them in the reading process.

This is because vocabulary mastery is the main point for students to have good speaking skills. This study aims to determine the relationship between vocabulary mastery and speaking skills. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlation study type. Anggota Peneliti FADLI FAISAL RAHMAN Abstrak Some English learners might be very good at speaking English but not optimal in writing English, and vice versa. However, there were also some English learners who have almost the same score between writing and speaking skills. As fellow productive language skills, researching the relationship between writing skills and speaking skills will be very interesting. Based on the phenomena that exist in the field when reviewing the results of foreign language skills, especially English, the researchers tried to map the relationship between writing skills and speaking skills in English owned by learners, especially English learners in universities. It became very interesting to reveal the relationship between two different English skills through research with a correlation research design. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the correlation between English writing skills and English speaking skills possessed by students. The design of this research is correlation research. The subjects of this study were 49 fifth semester students of the English Education Study Program, Nurul Jadid University, Probolinggo, in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the fifth semester the students took advanced writing courses and advanced speaking courses. From the results of the calculation of correlation analysis could be revealed that the correlation coefficient (rxy) is 0.0776. With an alpha value between 0.05 and 0.95, the t-table value is 1.6779, and the t-count value was 0.5338. From the results of this study, it could be stated that English writing skills and English speaking skills possessed by students had a very weak positive correlation. In other words, it could be stated that the higher the value of writing skills, the higher the value of students' English speaking skills with a very weak correlation.

Theories and concepts used include: CLT learning methods, and English communication skills. The method used in this research is descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques used in this research, namely questionnaire, interview, observation and test. The sample of this research is 70 students of KSK Institute of Fathimatuzzahro, Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School. Based on the results of data processing, it was obtained that the CLT Learning Method gave significant effect on the English communication skills. In general, the average value of the CLT learning method variable scores implemented in the learning process in KSK Institute of Fathimatuzzahro, Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School in upgrading English communication skills have high qualifications, score per aspect of students perceptions in KSK Institute of Fathimatuzzahro, Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School on students' English proficiency using the CLT learning method is in the high category and score of each aspects of supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing the effectiveness of the learning process English courses in KSK Institute of Fathimatuzzahro, Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School are in the high category.
